Roman Petibon, CSR project manager at Carmila

At the end of January, Lakaa deployed its platform for reporting and sharing CSR actions implemented by local establishments within the company Carmila. Roman Petibon, CSR project manager at Carmila, talked to us about his vision of CSR and the interest of this platform for their company.

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

I am Roman Petibon, I work in theCSR team of Carmila, a company of shopping centres attached to Carrefour hypermarkets in Europe. I worked with Lakaa as part of my mission on the "societal" part of our CSR strategy. The aim of this societal component is to strengthen the territorial anchoring of Carmila shopping centres, by deploying local actions in favour of local socio-economic dynamism and by raising customers' awareness of the environmental cause.

What are your daily tasks in the company?

I mainly work on the social and societal aspects and sometimes participate in the environmental aspect.

The environmental component aims to make shopping centres more responsible and resilient by including them in the fight against global warming.

As I explained earlier, the aim of the societal aspect is to strengthen the driving role of shopping centres in the dynamism of the regions, particularly in terms of local employment, solidarity and reasonable supply. For example, Carmila centres offer space to local associations to present their activities, raise funds and raise awareness of their cause. They build special relationships with the associations, renew operations and thus improve their local impact. In addition to this ambition of proximity and awareness-raising, the societal aspect aims to boost the local economy, notably through the promotion of local recruitment in the shops, but also thanks to omnichannel marketing solutions that support the attractiveness of independent and franchised retailers among others.

Finally, the social component includes diversity, professional development and employee commitment.

How do you see the place of CSR within a company?

For me, companies have an essential role to play in the environmental and social transition we are experiencing. I am a supporter of the Fable of the Hummingbird, which explains that everyone can do their part. In my opinion, everyone can and must do their part in this transition, and companies must rethink their activity and their functioning. The transition is a collective action.

Why did you call on Lakaa to help Carmila with its CSR approach?

The Lakaa platform, which was launched at the beginning of February 2021, supports centre directors in organising CSR actions with local associations. It helps them build "privileged relationships" with actors who are strongly involved in their territory. It allows us to strengthen our centres' efforts to raise awareness. Finally, it encourages collective stimulation through collaborative sharing and feedback.

What do you think of Lakaa's mission: "Reinventing business engagement in the heart of territories"?

This mission is in line with Carmila's raison d'être: "proximity at the heart of all territories". The local level is an ideal place to play a part in the environmental and social transition.
