Organize a DuoDay at your schools

In a nutshell

DuoDay takes three to four weeks to organize: a call for volunteers, registration on the national platform, and then a mentoring day governed by an agreement. The cost is low; most of the work involves coordination between the employee, the mentee, and the organization supporting them.

In 2025, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities was 11.5 percent, compared with 7.7 percent for the overall labor force, according to Agefiph.

Organized nationwide since 2018, DuoDay is a “walk in my shoes” initiative: a person with a disability spends a day with one or more volunteer employees to learn about their jobs. By 2025, more than 15,000 employers had participated, and nearly 35,500 pairs had been formed.

Implementation Steps

1

Upstream

  1. The disability liaison is calling for employee volunteers.
  2. The mentor and school administration approve the participants and the content of the mentoring pairs in consultation with managers and HR: tasks to be observed, environment, time slots, and duration.
  3. Hosting proposals, along with the day's schedule, are posted on duoday.fr or on Agefiph's "1 Day, 1 Career" platform.
  4. The organization promotes the campaign locally through social media and HR communications.
  5. HR or management selects the candidates.
  6. The pairings are confirmed on the platform, which formalizes the internship agreement and ensures legal protection for the participants.
  7. The coordinator finalizes the welcome arrangements: detailed schedule, information for the teams, and meals if needed.

D-Day

  • Provide the necessary safety instructions and have the subject sign the image rights release form.
  • Set aside time for discussion and observation: The person being mentored is not assigned routine tasks, as might be the case in a training program.
3

After

  • Ask the people in your care for feedback.
  • Conduct a group debriefing on the experience and its effects, and then share it widely—for example, during team meetings.

Use DuoDay for pre-recruitment

  • Take care to clearly define the job description and candidate profile, with the support of your Cap Emploi employment counselor.
  • Work with Cap Emploi and the manager to define the pre-qualification process and the next steps in the hiring process.
  • Next, consider a longer immersion period through a work-based training program (PMSMP) to identify any necessary job accommodations.

The tip to remember

A pair can consist of the same employee working all day or of several employees taking turns, and can last as little as half a day: you set the schedule.
